Introduction
Flexible, compressible closed cell silicone sponge rubber is suggested for high performance gasketing,
thermal shielding, vibration mounts, and press pads. Our general purpose silicone sponge rubber gasket
material is available in three grades of compressibility, determined by compression deflection, and in
four constructions.
R10470 silicone sponge is a general purpose silicone sponge rubber product that can
be used in most applications.
R10480 silicone sponge has extremely low compression set and will maintain
its resiliency even under extended compression.
R10460 silicone sponge is flame retardant. With R10460
silicone sponge held in the vertical position and exposed to a 2,000 degree flame for 12 seconds, there
is no residual flame and less than a 10 second afterglow. Like R10480, R10460 is especially resistant to
compression set.
R10450 fiberglass-reinforced silicone sponge is a unique construction. It has the
compressibility of sponge, plus dimensional stability in the X-Y direction. The absence of stretch
contributes to the consistent size and shape of die cut parts and eliminates outward extrusion under pressure.
New Products:
In addition to commercial grade silicone sponge products, Auburn now offers two new grades of soft silicone
rubber gasketing material:
R-10400 flame retardant silicone sponge is a medium–density
flame–resistant grade
of silicone sponge that will pass
UL-94 Flame Testing with V-0 rating from 1/8” (0.125”) and up.
R10490
fluorosilicone sponge is a modified silicone elastomer, which is often used as the material of choice for
applications involving oils and fluids that would degrade other sponge materials.
Adhesive Backings:
Auburn can apply pressure sensitive silicone or acrylic adhesives to standard sheets (36" x 36" or 24" x 24")
or continuous length rolls at 36” wide of R10450, R10460, R10470, R10480, R101490 and R10400.
All of these
silicone sponge rubber products can have any of the following adhesive types affixed to one or both sides.
Sheet thickness will be 1/32" thick or more. The self-adhering sheets permit substantial savings because they
are easy to apply, simplify production, and eliminate the high cost of bonding. The
SP-2021 Silicone Adhesive
withstands the same temperature extremes, -100°F to +500°F, as the silicone rubber sheet. The
AP-2022
Acrylic
adhesive has a temperature range of -40°F to + 300°F and offers the advantage of twice the adhesion to steel
and a longer shelf life than silicone adhesive.
New to our product line is the
Hi-Temp Acrylic Adhesive, which
is capable of withstanding a temperature of 450 F, while providing the high-bonding strength of an acrylic
adhesive. All of these self-adhering adhesive-backed sheets are protected with an easy-to-remove peel-off liner
for application to a clean, dry, degreased surface.
Product Advantages:
High Temperature Resistance to +500° F
Low Temperature Flexibility to -100° F
Resistant to Compression Set
Little or No Out-Gassing
Good Electrical Properties
Non-Stick Surface, Odorless, Tasteless
Long Service Life, Resistant to Growth of Fungus & Bacteria
Resistant to Ozone
Non-Corrosive, Non-Toxic
